This is a lighting study rendered in Unreal Engine 4. The intent of this piece is to display my experience with lighting and composition.
I wanted to capture colorful bounce lighting, and create a visually striking composition.
I focused on a small simple scene that would require good balance of lighting, color, and reflections. Getting the reflections on the vases was the most challenging part of this image, I used a direct reference which helped me realize these reflections. The bounce lighting was also challenging to balance, too much looked awful, while not enough would look very flat.
This piece was created from start to finish in about 10 hours. With a couple hours of touch up work.
I created all of the assets seen here except for the skybox.
The skybox used is a HDRI "Kloppenheim 05" authored by Greg Zaal
The idea for the composition came from "Turquoise bud vases from Crate & Barrel" author unknown and the color was inspired by "Untitled" by Niranj Vaidyanathan.
